After 4 alarms & 63 snoozes I got out of bed 🚨
Mid-wee selfie 🤳
In the car 🚗
On the road to Bundaberg 🛣
117k later I arrived.
I found the parkrun park.
Got out of the car & spent almost 15 minutes struggling to put my compression socks on 🧦
I saw my friends Lyle & Kaliki from Hervey Bay 👯♀️ They had driven all the way from Hervey Bay to run with myself & some of the Wide Bay Running Chicks 🐥
Walk down a hill - find the parkrun gathering spot.
I chucked my car keys in to the swingers bowl - I mean with all the rum up here it would be a great old time 🔑 🥃🍆
Back up the hill for a nervous wee 💦
Back down to the meeting spot.
First timer brief - this photo.
Yep that me during the first timers brief 😑
The map looked super complicated 🗺
Like needing a compass complicated.
Like u-turns & wiggles in the park.
My plan - just follow everyone in front of me.
Run brief & welcome done ✅
Thank you Matty & the Bundaberg parkrun crew for making me feel so welcome 🙏🏻
And I’m off & shuffling.
This is the moment went I tell you it’s a 3 lap course.
Run run run along a wide, gravelly path.
Little ups & little downs.
Run run run along some grass up to a tree stump.
Turn around ↪️
Run run run
Fuck! Up a steep causeway ⬆️
Run run run along the river 🌅
Run run run
Follow the bend in the path ↖️⬅️
Run run run
Follow the bend ↗️➡️
Steep causeway 😫
Up a hill 🤬
Turn left ⬅️
Run run run past the start line.
Do all of the above another 2 times.
Now I’m going to confess.
I prayed hard that there would be a freak storm ⛈
Flood the causeway & it would sweep me away.
Turns out I didn’t pray hard enough 😏 🙏🏻
Run run run 🏃♀️
Run run run towards the finish line.
My hip was absolutely aching.
I’m still recovering from Cadbury 🤕
I’ve reverted back to wearing an old pair of Hoka One Ones. The cushioning in them work for me. Team Hoka - let’s talk 😉
I stomped over the finish line in 34.09 🏁
It really is a lovely course, running through the park.
It is fairly shaded, a little bit of sun. Running along the river is spectacular 🤩
And the paths are nice & Wide.
I met a few ladies from the Wide Bay Running Chicks 🐥 they are a really supportive bunch of ladies who accept me for just being me (a bit of a moron)
A huge thank you & congratulations to Tanya who not only smashed her parkrun PB by over 1 minute yesterday, but she also organised breakfast at Leaf n Bean
I suggested it, she organised it 😇
I met so many people - Phil who stole a selfie while I was still dying 😨, Jodie,
Donna & Bex and soooo many more.
Caught up with Mione (I wish we could have a longer chat!)😘
I may have been reported to the police by a young kid in charge of the swingers bowl (the key box)🚓
I was looking for my car key 🔑 & he asked me what kind of car.
I said I like BMW’s or Mercedes.
His face 🙀
I don’t drive a BMW or a Mercedes 😂
Thank you for making me feel so welcome.
Honestly going to a different parkrun each weekend is daunting.
You all make it that little bit easier.
Would I come back?
But only if there is a bottle of Bundys finest waiting for me at the finish line
