Today I hit Hervey Bay parkrun, I was very frazzled when I arrived.
We were running late.
We hate being late, if anything we like to be 30 minutes early.
We can get ourselves & a toddler sorted, but I cannot be accountable for the grandparents.
I clearly told everyone we had to leave at 6:00am, well at 6:16am Grandma was still deciding which scarf to wear 😤
In the end, we left them to get themselves sorted & meet us there.
They still don't understand my blog nor my requirement of attending parkrun.
The drive from Burrum Heads to Hervey Bay is around 30 minutes, today we got stuck behind everyone out for a Sunday drive on a Saturday.
I finally made it to parkrun, I scrambled out of the car like an eager dog 🐶leaving Ben to find a car park & deal with Will.
It was cold ❄️ a wind had whipped up and was blowing a gale (to me it was a gale)
I managed to find Lyle, a lovely lady who has been a supporter of my page from the beginning. She was RD today & I received a very warm welcome from the parkrun community.
Lyle's husband Grahame is a permanent volunteer at parkrun, next week marks his 💯volunteer milestone. Congratulations Grahame, that is a massive achievement, without volunteers parkrun doesn't run!
The course is a lovely 2.5k out & 2.5k back. There are a few little inclines which don't seem much in the way out, but holy hell they are rough in the way back.
Moments before the start of the run Ben came over & got me ready - think of the assistant who helps a boxer in the boxing ring, he had my running glasses.
Now that I'm parkrun famous I no longer dress myself, I have people to do that 😜
The start of the run was rough, the cold wind was blowing in my face & I was a bit sore after being stuck in the car for 4 hours yesterday.
The course is run along the esplanade, like all parkruns we share the pathway with the general public.
Mid-run I hurdled over a rather slow beagle waddling his way up the middle of the path.
Today I wore my new RunFaster short tights, ohh the freedom my knees felt & mmmmmm the feeling of the wind running over my knee hair 🤗
Stay tuned for my review on the short tights.
I have no complaint about this course, it's bloody beautiful, the return view is spectacular - the pier, the water, the sunshine.
I count myself very lucky to be on this journey and to have each & everyone of you cheering me on.
Today I dashed over the line in 34.22
A new PB by 33 seconds 👍👏👌👊🤘
This is the 2nd time I have run the Hervey Bay course - last time was 24/12/2016 in 41.56.
I had the pleasure in meeting Alison - it also happened to be her birthday 🎂, Kaliki, Fiona, Chantelle, Eliza & speed demon Courtney.
I had a great chat with Susan who is related to Steve whom I met at Coomera parkrun, he inspired the Tour de a Parkrun 2017. That crazy bloke drove 800k to Emerald yesterday to run their course 😱
I met Bec in a shopping centre car park a few hours after parkrun, it's amazing the places people recognise me!
Bec, there is always next week, I'm sure you will smash it 🙌
If I forgot anyone's name I apologise - there was quite a crowd of you all today!
After parkrun we went and enjoyed breakfast Eat at Dan & Stephs
I'm still stuffed from my meal & it's totally worth it 😋
Will I be back at Hervey Bay parkrun - YES! I'm hoping to do some voluntouring next time I'm up
