Main Beach 2018

Main Beach parkrun

My Anaconda don’t….
My Anaconda don’t….
My Anaconda don’t want none unless you got buns hun 🐍

After 3 alarms I was kicked out of bed 🚨
Mid Wee Selfie 🤳
Shower 🚿
Dressed 💋
In the car 🚗
And on the road to Main Beach🛣

I arrived nice & early and got to catch up with my friends Robyn & Stephen from The Parky Park Runner Stephen has Parkinson’s, he now has the parkrun bug too!
I also was lucky enough to meet Wendy & Ross from Victoria, it was Wendy’s birthday last week and she came up to QLD for a bit of a holiday, and haven’t we turned on the rainy weather for her 🌧

Run brief done
My favourite part about the run brief is the visitor’s part. Where is everyone from? Furthest travelled? I was convinced Wendy and Ross would take that out.
But there’s always a bloody Frenchmen! 🇫🇷

Up to the start line.
Ready.
Set.
Go 🚦
And I am off and shuffling.

Run, run, run across the grass.
Filter up onto the footpath.
Run past the back of the Sheraton.
Last time I ran here, I got to see the other half, sipping on their orange juice in the fluffy white robes.
Today.
No one.
Because it was grey & miserable 🌫

Run, run, run veer off to the left ↖️
Undulating rises time ⬆️⬇️⬆️⬇️
The path is kind of trail.
Gravel, rocky, sandy, a touch boggy from the rain.
My headphones went flat.
Great.
I was going to have to listen to my breathing and the rub of my thighs for the next 4.5k 😩

Run, run, run 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️
Look, look, look 👀👀👀
I’m looking for the Anaconda 🐍
Well, it’s not really an Anaconda, it’s a Boa Constrictor.
Seriously. It was accidently released up near The Spit.
Bio-Security have been hunting for it for a couple of years 👩‍🔬

Run, run, run.
Up little hills ⬆️
Down little hills⬇️
Run, run, run – there is a volunteer standing next to the tree branch that we were warned about during the run brief.
Damn! I’m not tall enough to be decapitated by it 😰

Run, run, run 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️
Gravel, sand, dirt.
Run, run, run 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️
Sand, dirt, Gravel.

Finally I can see another marshal
Turn right - a bit of a steep rise ➡️
Run, run, run.
We are on the return now.
Undulating rises 🔀

A rather attractive group of men are running towards me.
The Richmond Tigers 🐯
I recognised them 🤩
They recognised me 😍
We didn’t make a big deal about it.
That’s what happens when you are an athlete.
We all know one another 🤥

Run, Run, Run
I come across Sean & Steve.
Sean was whinging about his back, Steve was giving him shit 💩
I joined in. We are now the best of mates 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️
If it wasn’t for my headphones going flat I would have missed all this!
Also, just listening to the crash of the waves as I ran was wonderful 🌊

Run, run, run back past the Sheraton.
We are on a concrete path – yayyyy!
Steve and I ran along together, chatting as we ran. He is fellow Run Down Underer, he will be completing his 2nd lap of Australia at the end of Feb 🏆🏆

This is where Sean got his second wind, and took off towards the finish line 🏁
I just kept on plodding, with Steve by my side.
Now, he is a much better runner than I. He could have run off with his friend, but no, he stayed with me, pushing me over the line 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Run, run, run veer off to the right ↗️
Run, run, run along the grass to the finish line.

I stumbled over the line in 34.45.
And no Anaconda was found the a Plus Size parkrunner shaped lump inside it 🐍

Thanks to Sean & Steve for the laughs, ohh and next time Sean I’ll bring my running pram for you.
Janey & Sally – always good to catch up with you girls!

I also had the pleasure of meeting Faye, the Queen of Main Beach parkrun, 261 parkruns 👸

After parkrun I had breakfast at the surf club with my new found friends.
Overlooking the surf.
Spectacular. I’m referring to the view.
Not my 4.5kg of muesli.
