Toowoomba

Toowoomba parkrun

🎢You're as cold as ice
You're willing to sacrifice our love
You never take advice
Someday you'll pay the price, I know....
The things I do for parkrun!

Our parkrun trip started on Friday when we loaded up Warwick the Captiva & headed up the range to ToowoombaΒ πŸ›£
It was a cold & rainy day but I loved it.
If I had the chance to move to Toowoomba I would do it in a heartbeat.
I love that town 🏘

I got to meet Tamara after her amazing husband sent me a message calling in a favour to pay her a visit at workΒ πŸ‘―

I visited Aaron atΒ TriRunning ToowoombaΒ where I picked up a new pair ofΒ Altra RunningΒ shoes.
Stay tuned for my review on this place - you all will be taking a trip up there soon to visit him 😎

A bit of shopping, a quick dinner where the kid was given an apple & blackcurrant juice to go with his dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets.
That kid ran around like a psycho back at the hotel room for an hour.
Note to self, never give him apple & blackcurrant anything againΒ πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Mum & Dad off to bed while Will jumped around in his portacot like he was in the Australian trampolining team.
Seriously, that bloody juice!

I woke up on my 2nd alarm.
Mid wee selfie 🀳
Shower 🚿
DressedΒ πŸ‘„
Wake up Will.
That kid looked like he had a hangover 😜

We exited the hotel after waking up our neighbours with a not so chirpy toddlerΒ πŸ™‰
Shit it was cold. So bloody cold.
7 degrees cold.

We drove the short distance to Queens Park, the parkrun location, parked the car, ohh and we still hadn't finished squabbling about how to defrost the windscreenΒ πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

We got out of the car.
Shit it was cold.
2 erect nipples coldΒ πŸ“πŸ“
2 erect nipples cold that could cut glass coldΒ πŸ“πŸ“πŸ’Ž

I was not dressed for a Toowoomba parkrun.
I was wearing my regular tour singletΒ Explosive Sportswear, my regular tightsΒ RunFaster, my visorΒ fisiocrem Australia.
Everyone else were wearing jumpers, skins, beanies.
That would have been sensible.
Think warm thoughts 🏝
Yeah, that didn't work.

I got to meet Michelle who had made the trip in from Gowrie Junction just to say g'day.
She is also a massage therapist fromΒ Modified Toowoomba
Michelle I promise to let you rub me one dayΒ πŸ˜‰

I attended the run brief.
I didn't pay all that much attention. My ears were frozenΒ β˜ƒοΈ
My run plan was to follow everyone else.

Everyone started to make their way to the start line.
We celebrated a few milestones today and before I knew it we were off & runningΒ πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ

We ran down a pathway which was lined with massive fig treesΒ πŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³
Down down down the path, hooked a right at a Marshall, up a steepish incline (ohh the hills get worse).
Turn left, run through some of the most beautiful gardens.
They looked beautiful today, I can only imagine how stunning they will look in September for Carnival of Flowers 🌺

At the end of the path hook a left, run past the roses.
Get scratched by the rosesΒ πŸŒΉπŸ–•
Run run run down the path as it snaked its way through Queens Park.

Head down to Hume Street, hook a left, run along the bottom of the park.
It's beautiful.
The sun is rising over the treesΒ β˜€οΈπŸŒ³
It's not warming up ❄️

Turn left at Margaret Street.
Run run run.
Shit a hill.
A long gradual hill.
This is where the uphill was my downhill 😱
Now I had been given a tip to running this hill.
1 tree at a time 🌳
Just 1 tree at a time.
There was 20 fucking trees!!!Β
I shuffled up that hill like Quasimodo, all hunched over struggling with every breath.
Ohhhhh the cold cold air 😱

19πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ20!
Turn a sharp right - where's the finish line???
Ohh that's tights it's a 2 loop course.
I have to run that fucker again.

(Repeat all of above)

I was hoping by the time I hit the bottom of the hill for a second time I would have developed a new & improved attitude.
Ummm, yeah, no.

πŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³πŸ˜€
The 😀 face represents my own breathing I could see.
To the untrained eye I would have looked like I was smoking a cigarette.
Nope.
I was just breathing like I was giving birth.Β
The offical term is Breath Vapour.
I had to google it.

Where's the finish line?
Crap!Β
There's more to run!
Back to the path lined by the fig treesΒ πŸŒ³πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸŒ³
Run to the Marshall who directs me up another smallish hill.
Past Ben & Will playing in the playground.
Hook a right.
Run a long a path then veer off to the right to the finish line.

That felt like the longest 5k ever.
Did it read like the longest 5k ever?

I skied over the line in 34.54 which I am bloody proud ofΒ πŸ†

I had the please in meeting Tamara (again), Renay, Karen & Nic, Sarah, Jules , Rachel, Margie & Mr ParkrunΒ πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹

What a friendly bunch of people!
I had a chat with the ED & RD after the run, took a few photos, then made my way across the road toΒ Park House CafeΒ for breakfast with my family.

Now that I've recovered, would I do Toowoomba parkrun again?
In a heartbeat.
In a irregular heartbeat, which I now have thanks to that bloody hillΒ πŸ˜‰
